Hello and welcome! হ্যালো এবং স্বাগতম! ¡Hola y bienvenido! أهلا ومرحبا! Ciao e Benvenuto! 你好,歡迎光臨! Bonjour et bienvenue! Γειά σας και καλώς ήρθατε! 안녕하세요! Hallo und Willkommen! ہیلو اور خوش آمدید! Hei og velkommen! こんにちは、ようこそ!
The District 26 Diversity in Educational Leadership Team, a cross-stakeholder group of staff members and parents, has always chosen to be our representative and committed voice to ensuring that we are a district that embraces, values, and acts to enhance diversity, democracy, equity, and social justice.
Watch, reflect, share and grow with us!
We have created videos to showcase the diversity, equity and inclusion work in our school communities. We hope you can use these videos as a resource, guide and inspiration to implement this important work in your school community because every person in the District 26 community has a role to play.
While viewing, please reflect, note, and ponder how we in our individual roles, can continue supporting the growth of our collective District and individual school communities:
School administration, teachers and staff: What inspired you? Which slides can enrich your school community?
Students: We would love to have your voice be heard! What excites you, what do you hope to learn more about? What is one event you would like to bring to your school? Share with your administration or teacher!
Families: Is your family’s culture celebrated? Was there a specific slide, story, or event that represented your unique background or experience? If not, how can we best celebrate you?
If you have a video or resource you would like to share or for more information, please reach out to the District Team or Sydney Correa, Administrative Assistant at scorrea7@schools.nyc.gov directly.
Additional Resources:
PS 376Q - Equity Movement
At P.S. 376, students take on roles as global leaders and citizens as they recognize how powerful their voices can be and the importance of being heard. They learn about cultural awareness, problems in the world, and seek to help change the world to make it a better place.
PS 94Q - Change Makers
Our mindful mentors, aka our Equity Team’s goal, is for our students to learn how to become “social change agents” and use their voice to impact their communities. Schoolwide, students participated in our Mikva Soapbox speeches and "the “Take Action” challenge to take a stand. We decided to take action by integrating service learning into our curriculum and highlight change makers from our past and present, in our monthly CRSE celebrations at P.S. 94.
M.S. 74Q - The Goals of Equity
At M.S. 74, our Equity Team focused on three main goals. These goals were promoting awareness, challenging conversations, and celebrating all identities. Our mission is to make sure that every member of TEAM 74 feels seen, heard, and accepted.
M.S. 216Q - Growing Together, Ryan Lion Equity Teams Roar
Our 2021-2022 goal was to create a more welcoming and affirming environment, as expressed in the NYSED CRSE framework. We pushed to make Ryan a place where people can find themselves represented and reflected, and where it is understood that all people are treated with respect and dignity.
P.S. 173Q - Champions for Equity
At. P.S. 173 we strive to create a space to celebrate all cultures, identities, abilities, and ethnicities. We do this through professional learning, developing students’ abilities to connect across cultures, diversifying our curriculum and empowering students as agents of social change.
P.S. 26Q - Celebrating Equity
At P.S. 26 our staff, students, parents, and community all play an important role in building equity in our school. This video highlights some of the wonderful things that are going on at our school to foster an environment of inclusion, understanding, and empowerment.
M.S. 67Q - Louis Pasteur “Does Diversity”
The diversity door decorations, bulletin boards, art exhibits, collaborative review of books for the Mosaic curriculum, and signs throughout our school building showcase a community of diverse students, teachers, administration, staff, and parents working collaboratively at M.S. 67. We are focused on growth mindset and equity. Some of the activities highlighted such as clubs, the school play, trips, and sports teams showcase some of the diverse groups that students can be a part of.
P.S. 98Q - World’s Fair 2022
The P.S. 98 1st World’s Fair main goal was to bring the whole community together to connect with each other and celebrate our diversity. Families brought food from all over the world, staged cultural performances, and hosted games from the five continents. Everyone loved it!
P.S. 205Q - Community Alliance
PS 205's community building forum, Community Equity Diversity Alliance (CEDA), provides a space to meet monthly to discuss ways in which to build a more inclusive and equitable school community where each child is seen, heard, and valued. Our vision is to promote the representation of different cultural groups. Our mission is to provide a forum for school community members to meet, share ideas, formulate strategies and effect change to transform our path for a more equitable society through collaborative partnerships.
P.S./I.S. 178Q - The Power of Empowerment
This video captures a glimpse into how we ground the work, acknowledge the need, and empower the learning community. The array of approaches shared in the video captures student voice, parent engagement, community partnerships, and teacher moves all in service of building a safe and whole community.
